Tyler had bad memories of Disneyland and was not excited to go. I had great memories and couldn't wait.We stayed at one of the Disney hotels since we were only going for one day. We wanted it to be convenient and we wanted to get in early during the "Magic Morning" hour.

The morning did not start out magically. I was on a mission to get out of our room by 8:00 to give us plenty of time to line up at the gate before 9:00. Eight o'clock came and went with Tyler working on his computer and Max and Bennett whining and crying. No one was mobilizing and I was very close to leaving those deadbeats in the room and just taking Charlie. I had to become Bobby Knight but I eventually got us out of there. We made it to the Disneyland gates just in time and I was able to chill out a bit. (I used to think I was a laid back person. I am not.)
Splash Mountain
It was a great day to be there--the weather was warm and gorgeous and the lines were short. I was still a little overwhelmed by the crowd but I have issues. Charlie rode everything and said "the mountains" (Space, Splash, and Thunder) were his favorite.

Max is much less daring and preferred the little rides with Bennett. He got worn out and zonked out in the stroller for the latter part of the afternoon.

My sister-in-law and her kids have season passes, so they met us for the second half of the day.

We hit it hard all day and were exhausted by the time the park closed at 8:00. I think Tyler and my views of Disneyland met in the middle--we both came away thinking it was fun but not the end all be all. We'll go back, but probably not for two or three years. Is that blasphemy?
We drove down to Temecula that night and stayed at Rex's house. He greeted me in this shirt again:

Some things never get old. Sigh. We drove to the beach in Coronado and I ate a big bag of Doritos on the way. (Take that, Kool-Aid Guy!!!) The beach was absolutely balmy and beautiful. It was hard to believe it was January.

We wrapped up the evening with a chaotic visit to La Salsa (six kids ages six and under) and then a serious strategy session about how I can get myself on Wipeout.A girl can dream.
We spent a fun day Saturday visiting our friends the Dabos, during which I failed to take a single picture. We drove home Saturday night--at that point Goldfinger was probably not fit for human habitation but we pressed on. The kids slept a good portion of the way and we had some really hot, salty McDonald's fries so I would call the ride a success.

It was truly the best beach day. Glad we chose Coronado. We were sad you guys only stayed 2 days. Next time you can stay for a week, especially if you are coming down to do wipeout. You will need some serious recoup time. Thanks for coming.
This post is so funny! A few things:
1-your bangs are soooo cute, just perfect. 2-blasphemy that Disneyland was not your be all, end all--we love that place, can't get there enough. 3- Rex and Sarah's kids are so cute too! Where is all this red hair coming from? So glad you updated!
We have tried to get kraig on wipeout. Best of luck to you! It might fly better bc you live in Cali.
So glad you posted!
I enjoyed Disneyland as a kid, but I don't love it as an adult. It is so much work, so much waiting, and my equilibrium is off since having kids so rides aren't fun anymore. We took our kids back in 2006 when they were 6 and 8 which means they were old enough to remember going there so Randy and I are calling it good.
Had way more fun at Disneyland than I expected. Still just a glorified amusement park though. Once every 5 years is plenty for me.
Love the Bobbie Knight comment. Still one of my favorite blog posts EVER!!
Y'all have GOT to go back and do the "other half" of Disneyland. . .California adventure!! Especially since you live in CALI! I love it--the best rollercoaster on the planet and the best ride ever - "Soaring over California!" As a native Californian, Tyler would LOVE it!
I loved all the Gorgeous children pictured in this post!! Where on earth did you find so many beautiful people to photograph?
i love that you want to be on wipeout so bad. let's figure out how to make that happen. & get me on wheel of fortune while we're at it.
d-land looks like it was a success. glad you & tyler's expectations met in the middle. & glad it was good enough for him to steal leef's line & say "it was way more fun than i expected!" that's success right there.
the beach looks dreamy.
& most importantly, so glad goldfinger decided to be fit for human habitation for the haul home.
Coronado in January.....ahhhhhhh!
What a funny post! We went to Disneyland last January as a last ditch effort to salvage a mistaken trip to Utah. We stayed in the Disney hotel, too, for the same reasons. We came away with the same impression of Disney: it was fun and we were glad we went, but we didn't feel like we would want to make it a week-long vacation experience. I mostly just liked being in warm weather and sunshine. I wish I lived in Southern California. I wish even more than that that you made it onto Wipeout. I love that you want to.
I love Disneylamd so it makes no sense to me that you wouldn't want to return for three years!! But I don't want to do more than a day and a half in the park anymore either.
I would have left those fools in the hotel room.
I love Coronado in the background of the beach shots. Thanks for consulting me over the phone on your way home.
Sounds like a blast and like you had a very busy trip! I have to say I love Disneyland, but only when I have an annual pass. It makes a huge difference! You go for 3 hours and leave when it's nap time or the crowds are too big.
So funny, we were at Downtown Disney Friday night, wished we could've hooked up! Next time...I guess that'll be in 3 years?!
I totally would have left the dead weight in the hotel room, and gone off with the shining ray of light.
I love the idea of Disneyland, though I've never been. It's a shame. I need to get down there.
Sorry your van is, well, inhabited by 3 wild animals. I'm glad I'm not the only one who throws food haphazardly into the backseat, hoping it lands somewhere near the intended target.
You seriously speak my language, Ashley: hot, salty McDonald's fries.
I started tensing in a very bobby-esque fashion when I read about your trying to mobilize the fam and get them out the door. I went through something similar tonight and I suppose I am a little sensitive! It takes a lot out of a girl being a wife and mother.
P.S.--Coronado is the BEST!
