Gingerbread Party

Every December we host a gingerbread house-making party for Tyler's family. We all cram in my kitchen--here's the group!

We've been doing it for several years now and I've learned a few things along the way. I bought the kids' houses this year (Bed Bath and Beyond has the best mini-houses) and I hot-glued them together. That's the way to go, folks.

Charlie told me decorating gingerbread houses is his favorite thing to do.

I'm actually surprised that people keep coming back. Tyler and I could not be ruder hosts. We get completely absorbed in our own house and don't entertain or offer food or even pay attention to anyone. Usually we each have to do our own house because we both like to have full creative control. This was the first year we successfully shared a house. There was some bickering and a few hard feelings at first but our union eventually produced this:

My nieces voted and we won first place! We displayed our houses and then this happened:

Sorry, Charlie!

I cursed myself by praying your endless posts had ended on the last post!! I have no one to blame but myself.

I have to say, I can't carve a pumpkin worth a crap, but I can decorate a gingerbread house like nobody's biz. Your offering was quite good.

Lemme guess-the hard feelings were on your part?

If I refresh this page, and another post pops up, I'm crying uncle.

I'm trying to think if I've ever decorated a gingerbread house. Am I missing out?

We hot glued our houses this year too! I thought it was such a genius plan, and it was because no houses collapsed & we went from start to finish with house assembly in under 20 minutes. Woot!

This tradition is a highlight of our season and we look forward to it, even though I got way too much criticism for copying everyone else s creativity. The houses were all awesome!

Nice handiwork. I like the chimney. We made those same houses yesterday with Sammie's friends. Pretty good deal for five houses for ten bucks.

Thanks for the tip with the hot glue.
